"I see myself as a princess for the world, not the Princess of Wales."

The insignia motto of Prince Charles' family feathers 'Ich Dien' translated, "I serve" personifies Princess Diana in all her adaptations. For others in the royal family it may have been more duty that continues them in services, for Diana it was her heart that lead her. And it was this genuine character of concern for all, that won her the title, "Queen of Hearts". And embrace with heart with all her might is what she did for so many a good cause and charitable contribution.

"If I must define my role, I'd rather use the word 'messenger'."

In 1987, Diana became the first high profile celebrity to be photographed touching an AIDs patient. When she took off her gloves and held hands with patient, Shane Snape at Britain's first AIDs ward at Middlesex Hospital, that image forever burned into our hearts. She said to him, "it must be really difficult for you." For Diana, it was an instinctual touch of compassion. For the cause however it was a symbol of a tremendous breakthrough that would change stigmas on otherwise adverse public opinion. But perhaps her most known charitable endeavor was that for the International Red Cross (Halo Trust project). Photographed on a 1997 trip to Angolia and Bosnia, Diana trudged valiently through de-mining areas. Her efforts placed focus on children who had suffered great injury due to landmines and even influenced the Ottawa Treaty in December of 1997. One of many awards presented to her in recognition of her humanitarian efforts, Diana received the Humanitarian of the Year award presented to her in New York City in 1995. At her acceptance speech she encouraged, "Everyone needs to be valued. Everyone has the potential to give something back if only they had the chance."

"Anywhere I see suffering, that is where I want to be, doing what I can."

"Nobody can dictate my conduct. I work on instinct. It's my best advisor."

"When I go home and turn off my light at night, I know I did my best."

"I feel close to people whoever they are--that's why I disturb certain circles. I am much closer to people at the bottom than at the top. I have a real relationship with the most humble people."
